簡介
生於加利福尼亞州，高中時已學習戲劇。戰後入俄亥俄安蒂奧克學院，畢業後當電臺播音員。1652年踏上舞臺演「羅伯先生」，1955年演出電影處女作【野宴】。1963年在【魚雷艇109】中飾演美國總統甘迺迪，同時又活躍在電視圈，曾獲得艾美獎。1968年在【落花流水春去也】中飾演一名智障者，顯露出他的表演才能，榮獲第41屆奧斯卡最佳男主角金像獎及全美電影評議會最佳男主角獎。1977年捲入哥倫比亞公司的貪汙醜聞案，演藝生涯因而中斷，直至90年代才東山復出。千禧年起以【蜘蛛人】系列主角彼得帕克的叔叔「班叔」而為觀眾所熟知。
