簡介

生於波士頓市的文化家庭，父是律師，母是教師，受保姆影響從小喜歡上演戲。在耶魯大學獲得歷史學位，並在校選修戲劇課程和日語，畢業後到日本大阪做了一年文案工作，忍不住演戲衝動返回美國，在紐約演出許多外百老匯舞臺劇。1996年演出電影處女作【驚悚】一鳴驚人，贏得金球獎最佳男配角及奧斯卡最佳男配角提名。1998年主演的【美國X檔案】和1999年的【鬥陣俱樂部】均將其精湛演技表露無遺，【美國X檔案】亦獲得奧斯卡最佳男主角提名。2015年又以【鳥人】獲得奧斯卡及金球獎最佳男配角提名。2000年首次執導主演的喜劇【相信愛情】亦廣受好評。近年來在好萊塢仍然維持著中上的成績。
